SER (Service Employment and Redevelopment) National Jobs for Progress Incorporated was, founded in 1964 and operates in more than 200 offices located in 19 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. In 1974, representatives of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) traveled to Kansas to meet with Hispanic leaders in an effort to establish a permanent SER organization affiliate in Kansas. The group drafted a blueprint for incorporating a SER affiliate in Wichita, Kansas. On March 15, 1974, Wichita SER Jobs for Progress (later amended as SER Corporation) was incorporated as a non-profit corporation, with the support of US Senator Bob Dole. Within months, the board of directors hired an executive director, Richard E. Lopez.

Since its inception in 1974, SER Corporation has worked throughout Kansas to customize services to populations in need of job readiness skills, relevant job training, education, housing and other community based services. SER has been instrumental in placing over 10,000 people in the workforce in Kansas, through funding from the City of Wichita (Kansas), the State of Kansas, and Federal agencies such as: DOL, DOE, INS and HHS.

SER’s specialty is addressing the needs of the hard-to-serve individuals, SER has the proven track record to effectively recruit, train and place low-income individuals in fulfilling and valuable positions.
